Fun fact: KFC was started in the early 1800s when the state of Kentucky had aspirations to expand their territory into the Louisiana Purchase. They thought if maybe they could export their goods into the frontier, perhaps the settlers would want to merge with Kentucky rather than have their own state. They initially put Colonel Brown of the KY militia in charge of the project, but after he was killed by Native Americans when overseeing the construction of the second KFC, Colonel Sanders rose to replace him.
