Double standards and special pleading are essential to keep these beliefs in place.

Great points.
Someone's "personal experience" means absolutely zero to a third party.

This personal experience can be found in any of the world's religions and cults. Every time i bring this up, the subject gets changed.

Mike winger is an absolutely wonderful pastor. When I was questioning if religion was true, I found so many videos of his that unpacked the Bible in a thoughtful, easy to follow way. I am so grateful for his ministry. If you are searching, look for his videos. God bless you

I think one problem people have in general with Christian faith is how to reconcile the teachings and traditions of man based on scripture and the understanding of scripture itself from an individual point of view lead by the Holy Spirit giving discernment.

Everyoneā€™s walk is different. Claiming that our Father in Heaven is real because of your own personal encounter and experience is just as fair as claiming He isnā€™t real because of your own personal experiences.

What seems more important than holding a debate and discourse about who is right or who is explaining things more honestly is to inspire others to seek our Father and pursue a course of action or live a life that brings you to your salvation on your own. How we do that is objectively different for everyone.

I like some of what some people teach and I try to approach and understand everyoneā€™s perspective to the best of my ability. However, it isnā€™t profitable to bother with which Internet personality is more correct or accurate in their statements or teachings for me as long as I hold fast to that which is true and pray for the spirit of discernment to guide me along the way.

These are my opinions and beliefs and Iā€™m glad to share them publicly but I do not require for a moment that anyone accept them or replace their own convictions with mine.

Thanks for reading ā¤ļø

Real question though, if we won't allow Christians to use their personal anecdotes as evidence of God's existence, is it any different when we use our own personal anecdotes as evidence of his nonexistence?

This portion of full video hits the nail on the head. Excellent job on this short. My drive is stronger now Iā€™ve said goodbye to the Christian faith.

No right off the bat the first thing you said is false. If someone goes looking for gold and says they found gold, but you went looking for gold and didn't find any gold, that doesn't give you the right to conclude that there is no such thing as gold.

So, that's the first thing you said in the first thing you said was wrong and probably everything else too.

Waitā€¦but Mike literally said why would he take someoneā€™s personal experience for proof that God doesnā€™t existā€¦which would mean in return that there wouldnā€™t be any reason to take someoneā€™s experience to prove the ladder. He was literally making your point and would agree with it. So yes, you are missing something..and that something is what Mike never said lol

Genuine Christians see through Mike Winger and "dishonest" is a word that has been used about him.

I'm SOOOOOO so tired of this tired old argument in apologetics, the "you're actually bad so who are you to question God and anyone else who does is similarly dishonest".

Apologists will use opposing ad hoc arguments to shore up different problems. Itā€™s always hilarious to point this out to them and watch them squirm.

When you ask "am I missing something" the answer is yes. You are missing the conviction that God IS real, no question about it, and no matter what you must rationalize all the inconsistencies.

You don't come to the argument presupposing the existence of God so you don't feel the need to make sense of the nonsense. I'm sure you're familiar with the feeling from when you did believe, but now you aren't forced to fit everything within the narrative of the Bible. You're (relatively) unburdened from biased thinking and thus you can see the arguments and mental gymnastics for what they are.

The only way someone could agree with Mike's argument is if they're christian, if they would've agreed with any rationalization because it fits in their current worldview.

You're not missing anything, they have no problem with dishonesty to push their nonsense. They do not have the morals they claim to possess.

I hate when I try and tell people my experience with religion, maybe itā€™s just me I move back and fourth between a Christian and a athiest and only a few people know when I change through the cycles

There is a huge difference between personal experience and historically backed testimonial documents. If I say that God visited me in my room yesterday, you'd have no reason to believe me, since there is absolutely no evidence to back up my claim. However, even the most critical scholars will admit that the gospels are on some level historically reliable. The testimony of the gospels is backed by independent historical sources outside the Bible, not to mention the fact that the apostles stood nothing to gain from their testimony apart from persecution and death, much different from somebody like Joseph Smith who claimed to be visited by God with zero witnesses and used that testimony for personal gain.

I guess we have to let go of any murderer where their reason for being convicted was because there was a witness who saw them do it

Winger loves to ballet dance around topics and heā€™s also big with Pascals Wagerā€¦he has as much sense as a box of rocks.
PineCreek Doug has a field day with Winger and can easily get him trapped using thought experiments to the point where Winger doesnā€™t have an answer and just comes off the wall with some ludicrous nonsense and shoots himself in the foot šŸ¤£ā€¦Yep Winger is really dishonest and I think he knows it. If he got openly honest it would be financial suicide! Doug is the master with thought experiments and mops the floor with these Winger type people every time. Kudos to PineCreek Doug! šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»
