Is this right though? If you are going by lift/cat/something that gets you uphill without having to walk, I'm pretty sure whistler is bigger. Remember that the 8100 acres are the total in bounds area, however, there are much larger areas out of bounds that are lift served, such as below the 7th heaven lift and below the symphony express. So although PM advertises more skiable acreage than whistler does, whistler has more lift accessed terrain. Let alone the amount and speed of whistler's lifts absolutely blowing PM's lifts out of the water, or the fact that whistler also offers a whopping 432000 acres of heli skiing terrain past the resort boundaries.

Wow, i lived in Ogden in the early 80's. Back then Power Mtn was pretty boring, and the road up was worse than Little Cottonwood canyon; but a lot of access to good backcountry skiing. Snowbasin wasn't that great either, but the Sunday town races were a lot of fun.
I left Utah in 1987 and it looks like a lot has changed.

I don’t know if this information was considered this year in the acreage, but one of the canyons has been made homeowner exclusive. It is likely that this has not been considered yet, as it would probably lose Powder Mountain the title of biggest mountain in North America.
Also, while yes - Powder Mountain does have more acres than Whistler Blackcomb, consider that Whistler Blackcomb has more lift-accessible acreage. Powder Mountain’s non lift-accessible terrain is quite a bit smaller than Whistler Blackcomb’s terrain.
And another thing to consider is the quality of those acres. Powder Mountain isn’t a particularly steep mountain, and while it is good for powder because of the limited ticket sales, it doesn’t make for that big of a challenge.
I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you - but I do think you could consider some other factors.

Access is up the most deadly public hiway road in Utah. Fun ski resort though
