Brazil's independence happened this way:
1806: Portuguese royal family flees the Napoleonic war to Brazil
1816: the Napoleonic war is over, but Dom. João VI likes Brazil very much and did not want to leave, England criticizes the fact that the family is living in a Colony, so Brazil ceases to be a Colony and becomes a kingdom, United Kingdom of Portugal Brazil and Algarves is founded
1819: the people revolt against the Constitution, Dom Pedro I peacefully changes the Constitution, ceasing to be an absolute monarchy and changing to a parliamentary Constitutional monarchy
1820: the imperial family returns to Portugal due to the Portuguese revolts, as they were without a king, but Pedro I and Leopoldina remain in Brazil as King and Queen Regent
1822(January): The Parliamentarians of Portugal want to force Pedro I and Leopoldina to return to Portugal
1822(January): after the request for dom pedro to return to Portugal, the people make a petition asking him to stay, he accepted and said: tell the people that i stay
1822: Pedro was traveling to São Paulo received a letter from Leopoldina that said: The Portuguese Cortes order your immediate departure, threaten and humiliate you. after reading the letter Dom Pedro gathers his men and shouts his famous phrase: "the courts of Portugal want to enslave us, they want us to return to the colony, that's why today I affirm that our relations are severed! Independence Or Death!"
so Brazil became independent from Portugal
