I keep my In Reach on my person because if you lose the boat or the pack, you're going to lose your lifeline. I have a waterproof case that I clip onto my inner layer. Just a safety tip because I had the lost pack situation happen to me.

In a pinch, wax from lip protection like chapstick or a candle nub will smooth out the zipper. We always keep a candle nub in my stylist kit for costuming AND on river trips for tent zippers.
