I personally believe it’s is an upgrade. Less pollution and trash being left over the area, less accidents by untrained or bad drivers, and it encourage people to go outside and get exercise. Went to Greenville recently and they have a lot of stuff like this, and it was very very pleasant. Would go back again :]

I recently moved to Seattle, and we have pretty good urbanism, but it’s absolutely ludicrous that Pikes Place hasn’t been pedestrianized

And now imagine if the asphalt is torn out to make room for a prettier ground covering, add more trees and other greenery, and those places would be incredibly pleasant to be in.

This is so great! A huge reason I prefer European cities is the walkability and less reliance on cars. Also a win for stores who benefit for more foot traffic, not to mention the environment!
