Yeah my mom used to set a timer on the oven and tell me to clean my room before the timer went off. If I was unsuccessful, she would storm in my room and take a wooden spoon, cutting board, etc, and spank me all while I was crying for her to stop. I was 5 at the time. Chores can absolutely be abuse.

Bro.... I was cleaning the toilets all on my own for years, my mom used them, my older and younger brother used them, literally two years ago they admitted to not knowing how to clean the toilets, I had to teach them!

It would also be abusive to give only one child the chores. Even if they are normal chores it is still abusive if you are only giving chores to one kid.

Thatās what I had to do, and I also had to cook, clean, fold and put away everyoneās laundry even tho they do nothing, take care of the dogs, basically every chore except the outdoors. Then Iād also have to do all that once I got off work bc my siblings didnāt want to do itā¦

Thank you for talking about this, my mom would never clean while I was at my dad's and I would come back to used toilet paper all over the bathroom and mold in the kitchen and I would have to clean it all up as a punishment for going to my dad, but when I told adults they always just assumed I was just being lazy and exaggerating "like a kid does"

Not everything is abuse. Itās unfair, yes. But Iām pretty sure thatās the standard experience for all young girls with brothers. I cleaned the family toilets my entire life. I donāt make my daughter do this, because I always thought it was unfair & Iām trying to be a more fair parent than mine were.. but it definitely wasnāt abusive.
