While the U.S. has a long way to go, don’t forget to check your state programs (especially if you’re in a progressive/democratic state 😅). If you’re in California, this video is an example of what someone might be eligible for, but not all will automatically qualify. Always check with your situation for specific eligibility

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington-and the District of Columbia have passed legislation to create paid family and medical leave programs.

Its wild to me that they're screaming about population decline in the US but don't want to have family friendly options for working moms. I want kids but I have a career that I've put everything I've had into for a decade.

And take the time to VOTE for the people who believe in Paid Maternity Leave … and Paid FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act)!

for a government that wastes money on stupid things with officials getting paid pretty handsomely we sure are hesitant to spend money on subsidising paid leave for mothers, you know the backbone of society.

Also check your company's short-term disability policy

I’m so glad I got 6 weeks paid medical leave plus 8 weeks paid parental leave through the state of WA. My husband got 12 weeks parental leave. It was life changing and a massive investment in our family and child. I don’t know where we’d be without having that critical time.

Dad here. Don't assume your employer doesn't have a program. Ask!
I was too new of a hire to qaulify for my state program but did qaulify through my employer for paid family leave.

So let’s get this right. They want to control our reproductive rights, but don’t want to give us time off to spend with the baby or regulate how much daycare centers can charge. Hhmm make it make sense. Let’s focus on what matters and my body’s rights aren’t part of that.

You have to have a whole fucking degree in maternity leave before you even get pregnant so you don't miss out on these programs. That's a whole other issue. Its absurd.

Couldn’t find anything for California that was more then 8 weeks paid at 55% with a cap of $1067 per week, so essentially if you make 100k a year you are getting cut to like 54k for those 8 weeks

Erin, you’re so helpful to everyone! Do you mind making a video on how to deal with annoying interviewers? Thanks! ❤

My heart breaks for mother's in the US. 😢In Austria you are on mandatory paid leave called 'mother's protection', 8 weeks before the birth and 8 weeks after the birth, longer for preemies, multiples or C-sections.

And then you or your non-birthing-partner can take paid parental leave up to 3 years. You can split the parental leave between you and your partner aswell. People who take short parental leaves get paid more and vice versa, the total amount of money you get should be the same for short or long parental leaves.

Not everybody can afford to do a long leave of course but most moms at least take a year off since that is the earliest you can find childcare programs.

I really hope the US will change for the better, mothers need time to rest and heal and both parents need time to bond with their new baby.

If your job offers short term / long term disability, get it!!! That saved me with my pregnancy. Also talk to your HR about FMLA

24 weeks is ridiculously low. Who wants to leave their 5 month old with a stranger?! Heartbreaking
