fyi- you can’t just buy tretinoin, it’s prescribed . and its only for people with severe acne/ cystic acne. With that comes scarring and anti-aging. i have some. dont get it on your clothes, it will stain. also dont just use someone else’s just because its “skincare” or “preppy” retinols and retinoids can be really damaging to skin that doesnt need it, ESPECIALLY young skin (12 and under). retinols that aren’t prescribed should be used at the age of thirty, where aging starts becoming noticeable. influencers dont tell you this, so i will 💗 EDIT- this comment has been getting some hate. So first of all let me address that I didn’t just make this up. It was fact checked by a licensed esthetician (my mom) and my dermatologist said many of the things i commented. Let me address the main things, i never said tret couldn’t be used for people under 12. I said certain unnecessary, unprescribed retinols are damaging to young skin. Secondly, I didn’t realize you could buy them online, but I imagine the prescription is different. Third, it can stain things, in higher amounts. Fourth, I only put 30 as the base age to use retinol because thats when most people use it/ most recommended. Can you use it in your twenties? Absolutely. Sorry if i phrased that wrong. My intention wasn’t to spread misinformation. It was to shed light on tret and offer some advice as a fifteen-year-old on tret, who doesn’t get many opportunities to share facts and opinions about it. and i’m very sorry if my wording has caused any confusion, i promise that i fact-checked, so did my mom, and i did sufficient research because i dont want to mislead anyone

I was prescribed this and I don’t have acne at all. I have a condition on my skin where I have small little bumps. It’s not only for acne can help for other things too. ❤️‍🔥

Tretinion cream is what she is using, it’s an anti-aging & acne cream! I use it 6-8 months out of the year, it will TRANSFORM your skin to beauty!!!

Someone once told me that they couldn’t fit one pea size of retinol on their face. I didn’t know what to tell them at that point.

PLEASEEEE! Anyone suffering with skin problems who has been prescribed tretinoin-> DONT overdo it! You can damage your skin barrier or even further! This could mean drying it out, getting a chemical burn, resulting in making your skin condition worse, and so on! Also, purging exists for those with acne, so don’t freak out! It gets better before it gets worse sometimes, but just be careful!

Adding too much tretinoin is a great way to get a chemical burn

People get so hung up on “pea sized amount” or “pearl sized amount” All you need is a thin film to cover the entire face barring the eyes, mouth and corners of the nose. It’s gonna differ for everyone. I feel like this should be explained when it’s being prescribed.

What I will say is having the gel vs. the cream made a HIGE difference. The alcohol-based gel never stayed long enough before quickly absorbing:,((

i have been on tret for 4 years now and putting as many as that is the best way to get a chemical burn. follow your doctor's advise. there is a reason tret is a prescription medicine 😬

Don't know why my comment disappeared but this is misleading! Pillowtalkderm, Dr Dray and Dr Sam Ellis have all spoken on this and the pea-sized amount is just a recommendation. A common guideline. Like a coin-sized amount of conditioner isn't gonna be enough for all hair types, lengths and densities. They explicitly say that if you feel like a pea-sized amount isn't enough, you can use more if your skin doesn't react negatively to it and if you've built up to tretinoin which is prescription vitamin A, then it's unlikely to cause problems. You're also recommended to bring the product down to your neck and chest, your decollete essentially, if you're using this for anti-ageing or hyperpigmentation purposes. A thin layer enough to evenly coat your skin is perfect. Second, if you're starting off, start with retinol at a low percentage (0.3% recommended by pillowtalkderm) and then build up to tretinoin if you need it only. Don't just see that this creator is using it and go and get it, it has a high potential to irritate your skin and cause more damage and the retinoid purge is so real! There's a reason this is prescription only!
