Not sure if you are aware but the word you use in reference to the carabiner is an offensive word targeted at Mexican people. Probably more in the US but still good to know these things

First method is good, second method isn't taught at my climbing gym. They teach us to push the rope through with the webbing between your index finger and thumb, without ever putting a finger in the gate.
