Since there isn't any blocking inside the walls to match what you want to install, cover the gypsum board with 5/8" or 3/4 " plywood. Attach this new plywood cover by screwing it @ 6"o.c. through the existing wallboard into the metal studs. That should allow you to mount almost anything anywhere you want by screwing into the plywood. without having to align it with the studs.

Yikes, yeah you’ll probably want to rework that wall. You can do plywood as someone suggested but still it’s just plywood anchored to light weight metal studs.

Sounds like a question for a contractor but my gut tells me NO, metal studs are NOT as load bearing as wood.
