I'd say the best characters with development goes too z future trunks, vegeta, piccolo, gohan up until the cell saga, and goku up until the end of Z and maybe in GT too but not super.

Z trunks was great because he was what the fans always wondered, what if the series lost their dragon balls. And with time getting to know the z fighters he got to know why his mother had so much faith in them.

For piccolo it was more so how he bonded with gohan for me seeing how he got attached and even sacrificed his life for him multiple times. Being the sort of uncle to gohan and trainer to his child.

Vegeta was one of my favorites because of the slow burn of his redemption the buu saga made it even better because he recognized he was changing for the better. And despite the fact he threw it all away it was for a reason that runs through his very soul. His pride, his strength, his saiyan blood finally had the chance to feel fulfilled with one full on fight with goku. And despite all the losses he took during super the way he always got back up and pushed himself forward was always admirable especially when he puts his pride in others it shows how much he's grown from the cold blooded saiyan elite to a father, a warrior, and a rival to the gods.

While with gohan it was like he said in the video he was hinted at time and time again to have amazing potential and even surpassed the others multiple times. The kid was even going to be the main protagonist if people didn't love goku so much.

And mentioning that the goku was an amazing choice too. The way he went about everything so laxed in nature was always a relieving feeling and got the blood pumping for watchers cause when he's on screen you usually already know whos gonna win but it will always so cool to see how things would go. How the boy that lived in the mountains became a living legend training with and surpassing the kais, befriending some of his most powerful foes, and having a loving and laxed relationship with his family despite how chichi acts when they're face to face.
