The Wii U can actually run GameCube games natively, and they could've easily just given us that backwards compatibility as an option. Genuinely one of the only complaints I had with the Wii U

The weird thing is you can pull up an original Wii menu on the Wii U and the Wii at least the regular version played Gamecube games so its kind of strange. I guess it's the whole idea of reverse compatibility being erased after each generation from Gamecube-Wii, Wii-Wii U, GB to GBC to GBA, GBA to DS, DS-3DS. I could go on its just crazy to think about.

What's odd is that the wiiu hardware can play gamecube games, it's just the disk reader dosen't support it. Though if you have some modding skills, you can get it to work

use homebrew, then DVDs and GC discs will work… you can even play Blu-Rays apparently

If anyone wondering whats going on, The wiiu disc drive physically CANNOT read GC discs simply because nintendo didn’t put the hardware to keep the disc in place in the wiiu disc drive.

The fact that it just spits the GC discs out makes me think that it might be capable of reading them, just like later wii models, they might work if you hack it

With hacks, we can play gamecube games with retrocompatibily. It might have been a virtual console if the wii u actually sold
