Was stationed in S.Vietnam at Bien Hoa AFB! As an aircraft crew chief and mechanic! Never spent any time in Saigon. Arrived there and flew out after my year in S.Vietnam! We had many locals working on base doing many different jobs. We enjoyed talking with them and learned a lot about them.

I worked with the stano project after my tour , in 1969 we wanted to light up the night and take away the darkness advantage, it was too ambitious at that time but later on it produced all the gear that takes away darkness, surveillance target acquisition night operations , was not a success in Vietnam but it is operational today and has yielded much success.

I am in my late 70âs. I will be gone in a few years if not sooner. Many of the veterans of that time are gone or will be. The younger generation wonât or even know what Vietnam was. Many today donât know the what years WW1, WW2, and Korea wars were.

Iâve heard this. We were there to protect the Roman Catholic interests in South Vietnam. They didnât want to lose their influence there. What a waste of our proud young men.

Iâm amazed with both half hour and one hour news shows on every night throughout that war that we hear in the United States never heard a peep about this being a religious war. Hell I studied it in college and I never heard this before. We all knew about monks emulating themselves to draw attention to Issues they had⌠I just expected the country to be primarily Buddhist..

The French didnât like being colonised by the Germans in WW2 but after they where liberated thought it was ok to recolonise Vietnam. That is the real history worth remembering
