I used to do alot of plastering and you always do 2 coats like this, well I and everyone on site would. Always use bonding on the 1st coat over artex, 2nd multi finish. That's what I was always taught anyway.

Plaster over Artex, on your first coat always add 5 large handfuls of bonding coat to one bag multi finish. Second coat as normal. It's a game changer.

I use the same technique for blue grit. Apply first coat and leave it! Patience is key

Or the best way to remove artex is to use a wallpaper steamer/remover just wedge it or put it close to the ceiling with a bit of 2Γ2 and leave it for 4/5mins depending on how porous it is and then move it slightly along to the next patch while using a floor scraper on the steamed area and it should easily fall away - just be careful not to stand directly under the steamer and not get burned
