This is a short, animated visual proof of the Pythagorean theorem (the right triangle theorem) where we show how to use Euclid's shear and rotate proof to create a dissection proof.

If you like this video, consider subscribing to the channel or consider buying me a coffee: www.buymeacoffee.com/VisualProofs. Thanks!

Check out my Pythagorean theorem playlist:

   • Pythagorean Theorem

The dissection proof was suggested to me by Glen Whitney (studioinfinity.org/), and Glen then found a similar dissection in the compendium of Pythagorean theorem proofs from Elisha Loomis (Proof 21 on p. 122 ).

There are like hundreds of Pythagorean theorem proofs.
I'd like to see one from tesselation one.

I like this proof. When was it discovered?

Will you make an animation on the new paper "Five or Ten New Proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem"?

Put the b square in the c square and split the a square to fit the rest of the spaces.. much easier that splitting into a bunch of triangles

I like better the two squares side by side, one of c, the other a and b. Is clearer to see.

This proof was found by a shocked mother after a massive damage in the kitchen with all the broken glass on the floor. 😮

But pythagorean Theorem is only applicable for Right angle triangle😊

Can we just have no music. That stock "dramatic" music really kills it. It's so tacky
