I love how talented he was. Been a fan since I was a child and Im now 55. Few people realize that early in his career he played T-bone Walker and Django Reinhardt type runs.
His minimalist style was just that, a style of playing he chose to perfect so as to challenge and amuse himself with. It was not due to a limitation of skill or knowledge.
