An Aero Vodochody L-29 Delfin jet, registration LV-X468, was destroyed when it impacted the ground during an aerobatic maneuver at the Aeroclub Villa Cañas, Santa Fe Province, Argentina. The two occupants onboard sustained fatal injuries. Online videos show that the aircraft in a low altitude flyby over the airport before it started (what appears to be) a Victory Roll maneuver. At the top of the roll the aircraft entered a dive from which it was not able to recover.

When I first started flying airshows my ACE told me the barrel roll kills more airshow than any other maneuver. It’s so simple, but if you ever get slightly disoriented while you’re upside down you can wind up split S ing right into the ground as you start pulling on the wrong line trying to stay in the box. You won’t have enough altitude. Never pull upside down, always ease and roll out to recover.

If you think you would never do anything that stupid, don’t ever do a barrel roll close to the ground because you will be next!

Unauthorized solo aileron rolls were the number one killer of T-28 Trojan navy trainees in south texas.
Often on their 1st solo flight, too

Sometimes having all that experience gives a sense of infallibility.

I’m a retired airline pilot, but did some aerobatics when I was younger and I did the same thing but I was high enough to pull out of it… it still gives me shivers… And I did some (500 ft) lower ones BUT reminded myself to push forward slightly just a bit when inverted because pulling back is so tempting. It also just gives me tremendous respect for guys that can do this close to the ground day after day… They have some talent that I just never developed, maybe only a few people can.

Altitude is your friend when conducting any aerobatics.

That stuff is always a bummer. I grew up a kid to a pilot. A lot of air shows and air races. There were a couple of bad accidents I saw. It ultimately claimed my dad and grandpa as well. But it was their life, so I guess they died doing what they love. Stay safe out there.

At least he didn't crash into the crowd.

I've flown the l29 and I've done this. It is very easy to do. I can't imagine what happened. It almost looks like one of the pilots had a medical incident and was on the controls. This shouldn't have happened.

Showing off in any airplane at low altitude is one day going to end in disaster.

When it happens to even experienced pilots, remember to be a humble pilot. Anyone can have a bad day.

That was one of the worst dish outs I've ever seen. I own/fly an L29. Super nice forgiving jet to fly. It doesn't matter though. Never barrel roll or aileron roll at low altitude. Even if it was mechanical failure, which it wasn't.. you still have time to lose the canopy and get on the seat chute. Experience comes with a dangerous side effect call complacency. Sad to see two pilots and a wonderful aircraft wasted like that😕

In 88 I was supposed to drive with my parents to the airshow in Ramstein (Germany) but due to some problem with our car we didnt go and avoided the disaster where planes if the Italian formation collided and one crashed into the crowd.
I took this as a sign to never go to an airshow in my life.

This is too common at air shows. Pilots aren't experienced at doing these things so close to the ground and misjudge the space they need. More needs to be done to stop this kind of reckless flying.

I've flown in an L29 at Bathurst, NSW Australia. We did many barrel rolls and those sort of tricks. Can't imagine this happening without a plane fault or some one losing consciousness or getting disorientated. Very sad to see this happens so often at air shows. They really should stop doing these stunts at them. It's too dangerous

Thanks for cutting out the actual crash. It's always heartbreaking to witness the end of a living being.

Is not true.
I was in Argentina when that happened.
The owner of the plane was not in the plane. That plane was for sale. The pilot did not have much hours in this plane but they were doing a demonstration to sale the plane..
Sad end.

I've done all these crashes flying remote control planes. I've managed to walk away from probably over 30 crashes.
