Time is actually invaluable.
In order for something to be valued it must be quantifiable. It must be something that can be stored in some sense. Consider any measure of value - you can have more than one of it. Dollars, Points, pigs or sweet potatoes - they’re all cumulative. You can stack them, in a sense.

Valuations of time must be tied to arbitrary tokens that are considered timeless. Obviously no such things exist, but numbers give us the illusion that they do. In no way does the 6 minutes your lawyer charges you for still exist, but we have a social contract that honours perpetuity as a shared delusion of continued material manifestation when we all know perfectly well that nothing is the same from moment to moment.
