As Manipur has witnessed tragic clashes in the last 2 months, leaving over 100 people dead and thousands displaced, we stand in solidarity with our Manipuri Sisters and Brothers. Vested Interests both abroad and inside India would like to exploit the sensitive situation and that is what we as Nationalistic Indians need to challenge. This is a time to understand the issue dispassionately, but with empathy and objectivity. Scholar Rami Desai in a scholarly masterclass helps us understand the issue at hand and the entire history and politics at play in these unfortunate ethnic clashes. Blind assumptions, assumptions and conjunctures only. I am from Nagaland. None of the above are supported by facts. Nagas are not Indians, and had always resisted any foreign presence, including the British colonial forces. When they left, they naturally resisted the Myanmar and Indian occupation. Terrible military retributions were unleashed by newly independent India. Untold killings and sufferings were inflicted by the military. The Church, CIA, British nor any foreign hands were involved. Rather it was the Baptist Church that intervened to bring in some respite and the first ceasefire in 1966. India should stop looking through such coloured prisms and honestly address the root issue.
