Yep I got a cheap bag of bread from Walmart. And it did not mold after weeks of having it. I never opened it and ended up throwing it out. But I thought that was weird and haven't bought it since

Part of the problem is that American wheat is separated from the germ. Which by the way is where most of the nutrition is. This was done to increase shelf life, and since they removed the wheat germ they then have to fortify the flour usually with iron, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, and folic acid. This is so you aren't eating a caloric deficit. Once all this is done, they then add mold inhibitors, to prevent spoilage and extend shelf life. These can be either natural or synthetic additives that create an environment hostile to mold growth. It's not surprising that there was no mold growth. Never eat processed bread, ever!

Can’t believe I have to explain this. But mold can’t grow if it hasn’t been introduced to the package. Which happens usually when you open it and touch the loaf with your fingers. Once it fully dried in the package, there’s nothing alive in there to break down the loaf. So no decay.

Is it successful if we figure out how to stop food from molding or is it dangerous that now we have figured out how to modify out foods ?

It isn't food. It's chemicals. No store bought bread is food. Even the "healthy" stuff. Make your own! It's easy and cheap.

I have a loaf of Sara Lee bread on my garage shelf that expired in February. I noticed it right after it expired, and I kept it as a science experiment. I started making my own bread when I realized the crap we buy isn't bread anymore.

I live in the SLC area. The most popular bread, by far is Grandma Sycamore bread. It toasts well, tastes good, but the problem is, it lasts for months. I used to eat it up, until I used my critical thinking skills.

I tossed out a partial pack of hot dog buns that had some green fuzzy spots....it probably took about a month.

I found a bag of bread dated 2017. No mold at all. It got stuck behind our drawers 😅
