I feel the hair care market is a bit different. While I do agree that sometimes we can be our own worst enemy, I believe hair care is tricky. Most women have a hair routine set in stone and because it’s hard to find products that truly works, I think most brands will have to prove to be worth the purchase. While I agree any company has the right to set their price point, I do believe they should be realistic towards the market. Most black owned hair care brand products range from $8-21 so for celebrities to come in pricing their products at ($100 + Beyoncé) just isn’t feasible long term for most people. I think we also have to take into consideration the lack of trust that has been building up in the black hair community with hairstylists being unreliable, hairstylists charging crazy prices, black hair care brands selling their company which leads to a change in product formulas. I believe we are in a delicate place when it comes to our crowns because we are just now learning how to truly love and nurture our hair and we will try to avoid damage at all costs. I think when it comes to hair care within the black community, we have some rebuilding to do to regain trust. People are skeptical due to celebrities entering such a sacred space, but black women have been supporting black hair care lines for yearsss (Mielle, Camille Rose, Carols Daughter, etc.). While I do recognize some people’s hesitancy, I will will continue to show support to black women’s brands 😊
