What should you do? Not yell at people with ADHD. Donāt ever call them stupid or say they arenāt listening or they arenāt paying attention. Donāt accuse them of sleeping on the job when you have no proof that is what they are doing. Iām so traumatized by the verbal abuse Iāve experienced from Managers that I never want to be an employee again. Neurotypical people need to Educate themselves. Sometimes people who have ADHD also have auditory & visual processing issues that result in slower learning curves. Speak more slowly so people with ADHD and auditory processing issues (me) can take in what youāre saying. For example, this lady is talking too fast for me to remember or absorb what sheās saying.

I canāt even begin to put into words how much I love and agree with this!! I believe the core message is leaders have to know the INDIVIDUALS they are leading. Whether they have ADHD or not, individuals respond to different things. Leadership is NOT a ācookie cutterā thing. You truly have to know those youāve been given the opportunity/privilege to lead in order to help them become the best versions of themselves-and the employee you need them to be. For me personally-itās NEVER been about them ābeing the employee I need them to beā nearly as much as itās been all about helping them become the best version of themselves. At the end of the day-thatās what truly matters to me. They may end up not having a passion for our industry-I can respect that. But as a leader, I truly hope when they do take that next step to find what they do have a passion for-that they will connect the dots and know I was always in their corner, and I truly hope I played a part in them finding what can support themselves/their families-and hopefully brings them joy.
