The Boomerang Nebula is a protoplanetary nebula located 5,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Centaurus. It's also sometimes called the Bow Tie Nebula. The nebula's temperature is 1 K (-272°C), making it the coldest known place in the Universe as of 2003. The Boomerang Nebula is formed by a stream of gas from its central star or stellar system, moving at about 164 km/s (600,000 km/h) while rapidly expanding. This expansion is the cause of the nebula's extremely low temperature.
