Same in Milan, canals built thanks to Leonardo da Vinci and used to bring products and goods from the country could enter the city by boat. Too bad they covered them up.

Thank you for the info! By the way, It’s pronounced ca-NALS, not CA-nals, with the intonation on the second syllable. It sounds like a different word otherwise.

Also Milan had been used to look like that, more or less, until big parts of Navigli were closed in the middle on the last century. Some urgent projects although are going to be implemented to reopen them, even to reduce the effects of storm outburst floods. My maternal grandfather was one of the last workers delivering goods and carbon with horse-drawn barges on Navigli channels when he was a young kid.
