I Put a Wii in this CRT

I put a Wii on a BVM input card. Fun little side project.

Not big or crazy enough for a full length video, so I made a short instead.

If someone is using this video to try to sell you a CRT using this video, they are probably trying to sell it to you for far more than it's worth, and far more than they bought it for. The prime example of this would be "Cody" / "uchiga" / "Analog Attic" who has purchased large quantities of this monitor to inflate the price, selling them one at a time for hundreds of dollars more than what he paid for them. I would strongly advise avoiding purchasing any monitors from this opportunistic individual.

This model of monitor is finicky, difficult to service, and very particular about video signals and sync. I would not recommend this model to a novice in the CRT hobby, especially at the unreasonable prices people ask for them.

Finally I can feel like a space trucker in an Alien scavenging vessel while I play Mario Kart.

We spent the weekend at my grandparents on the holidays and they still had a big back, RCA CRT in the guest room.
My wife and I had too much fun watching movies on that old thing. The video quality is so nostalgic

This is, no lie, probably the best build you've done in terms of pure utility. I hope there's gonna be a full video of this because I'd love to see the process

Would love to see a video going through the process of making this. This is such a smart use of the open-source BVM input card project.

Honestly this is my favorite custom Wii/GameCube. It’s literally everything you could ever need for home retro gaming and it’s semi portable.

Broadcasters and Video producers SCREAMED TO THE HEAVENS to get that monitor for they were super expensive and the benchmark to make sure you are Broadcast compliant. That monitor is NO JOKE. Again, it use to be stupid money in cost.

As someone who is still to this day loyal to CRT's, I enjoyed this video thoroughly.

For those asking about the colorful diagonal lines across the screen: they are not present in person.

They are a "rolling shutter" visual effect/artifact. A modern camera does not capture an image all at once, it "scans" the image from top to bottom. CRTs also create an image by scan from top to bottom. So normally, if you match the frame rate of the two, you can capture a pretty still looking image, because they are both aligned and scanning top to bottom.

However, YouTube shorts are vertical, and to capture a vertical video, I had to rotate my camera 90 degrees. So now the camera was scanning from right to left, while the CRT was still scanning from top to bottom. This misalignment of the two scanning directions created the visual artifact of the diagonal lines.

You can learn more about this effect by searching "rolling shutter".

The videos dont do this thing justice. It truely is immensely beautiful. Its probanly the most crystal clear crt for gaming there is and ive seen many of them at video game conventions and theyre usually used to run arcade boards off of it.

I think i played you at Low Tier City on one of these things YEARS ago, but I dont think you had this set up with a modular port at the time. This is incredible!!! If only this TV was still on the market it'd be incredibly sick to sell wiis as card slots like this haha. Almost feel like getting one of these myself just for the novelty
