There should be a law on how much Landlords are able to charge rent because its completely out of control in London.

For a studio in the Barbican £1500 is a pretty good price for today’s standards.

We need renter reform laws to limit landlord power. Otherwise there will be a revolution.

£1500 a month for an ex council flat. We're doomed.

Recently saw a landlord being interviewed. He implied that they were hard done to because they aren't allowed to deduct the mortgage from the rental income before paying tax ..... Example: He collects £1500 a month in rent but pays £1000 in mortgage .... He has to pay income tax on the £1000 while a loophole used to let them deduct the mortgage and so only pay income tax on £500. Argument probably sounds good to landlords but reality is that the mortgage isn't an expense since it is going into an appreciating asset ..... I have met way too many Landlords who are there for the business only and don't even do the repairs they should be doing with the argument that "the tenant forgets that those repairs are coming out of my pocket" ..... Yes, landlords you are in a business so do the work!

Most rooms are pushing that, in areas that are no where near as iconic as the Barbican. She’s made it super nice and used her space well. ❤

£1500 in Glasgow you get a 4 bedroom house with a garden. Obsession with living in London is bonkers.

The fact that economically, your rent shouldn't be more than 1/4 of your income means that you should ideally earn 70,000 grand a year, after tax, to rent a studio flat where your bed is in your fucking living room.

1500 Christ...and that's cheap!!??. That is absolutely mental, something has gone wrong here. When a basic need to have a effin roof over your head, became a luxury.

The barbican may be mostly ex council but now the whole development is iconic. Some are worth millions. I’ve been in one of the 3 story duplex apartments with the arch shaped window and even the old 60s kitchen I think is listed. Lovely spot. I wouldn’t want to live there as I’m happier out of London these days.

16 Estates own 1453 acres of Central London. They are among the most powerful in the country. (it includes the church commisioners and the Crown estate.) The chances of London property rates being taken under control is highly unlikely without a revolution occurring first!

At the start of the 1970's, the average house cost around £4,500 to buy (£60,000 adjusted for inflation)
WTF happened! :(

£1500 is still way too much but she's made the best of it by making it her own and making it look real smart and tidy. Good on her 👍

£1500 pcm and has separate kitchen and bathroom, and adequate size living space…for a studio in Barbican that’s mega impressive…what a deal!

My studio is £1436 and half the size of hers, no separate kitchen and a bathroom fit for a lizard
