Bromine can be and is stored in containers that are not sealed borosilicate glass ampoules. If you win the lottery and can afford to buy it from Sigma-Aldrich, you can get an example of what they ship it in.

Nice, I did a PBr5 prep recently and stored it in carbon tet for later use. Listening to this I realise I should've ideally purged the apperatus first. I didn't do the reaction in the CCl4 as I wanted to see the flames

One of my favorite quotes from tom of explosions & fire about halogens is "your body says "Ooh that's the important nutrient Iodine"" in his perchloric acid video (I think)

Only one that has 2 stable isotopes, the least of any elements.
Kind of real cool!
Used as a fire retardant on planes they tend to soak everything in it. The airplane fire fighting foam has a lot of Fluorine also.
No ‘minimum safe dose’ of Fluorine. This Halogen group displaces Iodine and the elevated use interferes with human health.
Electrical wiring in aircraft are wrapped in teflon/fluorine and in bundles to prevent arcing over. As what happened on Swissair flight 111.

UNSerious question for thought project: say I'm making a movie and there's a fuse to bomb made with an ampule of bromine as the catalyst inside an oxygen rich metal shavings container. What kind of explosive would this "fuse" best be used to ignite, and what would be the method to break the ampule?

All answers provided should be done so for educational and entertainment purposes only.

Made this in my garage (1-2ml) and stored it in a PFA bottle. One of the most unique and interesting elements on the table. Anyone have an idea what I should use it for? 😅
