to those who ask why 13 dwarves make such an impact: thorin is the true king of the dwarves, he is a fearsome warrior, he single handedly crippled azog and rallied the battle of moria and the orcs don't know he didn't kill smaug so yes, I would be frightened I was charged by a warrior feared by my people, who destroyed our greatest warrior and probably killed a dragon. wouldn't you?

2:06 the minute they start running through the entrance. 1 dwarf followed by 12, rallying the remaining dwarves and his cousin on a final charge to defend their home and destroy their enemies once and for all. Gives me chills every time I watch this scene.

This is why you gotta love the dwarfs, just look at them before Thorin's charge, they regroup for a second stand, they keep war chanting to never lose morale, no matter the odds, situation or numbers stacked against them they never falter, as through history dwarfs have always been outnumbered, they will fight to the last dwarf still standing and keep war chanting, they never show their enemies that they are afraid.

An army of a thousand orcs are marching when they come across a single hill. From the other side of the hill, they hear a dwarf shout "Stinkin' orcs! Every one of your kind is a cowardly sod. I bet your whole army couldn't best this lone dwarf." Enraged, the general sends five orcs over the hill and the army listens to the fight.
"Is that the best ye got?" The dwarf shouts back over the hill. "I could have beaten them in me sleep!" The general, embarrassed at the loss, sends another 30 orcs over the hill and fighting ensues.
"Hah! Even 30 of you smelly bastards aren't enough to take down a lone dwarf!" the voice calls out from the other side of the hill. Deciding he has finally had enough, the general sends 100 orcs to kill the dwarf. As the sounds of the fighting start to die down, the general sees a single heavily wounded orc crawling back up the hill shouting "Run! It's a trap! There's two dwarves!"

look closely at 2:06 in the doorway. You can see the deep claw marks from when Smaug entered the mountain. Love that attention to detail.

I, personally, feel like the CGI glow and stuff was adding to the feeling of the movie. The Lord of the Rings were like WW2 when the "real" fight begun and The Hobbit was more like tales about the heroes of the past.
Tales of heroes, kings and the fight between good and evil should be told in a glorifying and story-like glow. But that's just my opinion.

Sometimes it really is the little things. While "to the King" and Thorin's line on Durin's folk gets me everytime, sometimes it chokes me up to see Thorin, Fili and Kili raise their swords in unison, like maybe Thorin was the one who taught Fili and Kili how to fight and that's why they charge the same way 🥹
