The Dive Bomber the Vultee Vengeance had a zero angle of incidence which meant it was weird to fly in level flight but it could dive straight down without losing accuracy on release. Ended up unloved but did some excellent work in Burma against stubborn Japanese emplacements.

The Stuka was an excellent plane for what it was developed for but it needed back up so if it could be protected by fighters it would create devastation unfortunately Goering was not so clued up.

The Stuka was considered a very easy target by the RAF Fighter Pilots, and it was withdrawn from “The Battle of Britain” by The Luftwaffe, due to very heavy losses.
However with modifications to its weaponry, it flourished on The Eastern Front as a tank buster!

In the hands of a well trained military pilot it was not overrated by any means as the loss added up as in the battle of Britain. Tactics as well as training and equipment were cut short during the latter part of the war. Well trained military pilot were killed off it was a losing suation

The whole dedicated dive bomber concept was overrated not just Stukas. For a brief period they were useful in sea battles. However all their roles were over by 1943 when fighter bombers could do the same job.

FCX used the ‘87 against allied ships with great effect, sadly.

Brown said it was the only dive bomber that could dive truly vertically.
It did a lot of damage - particularly to the RN.
So no, not overrated at all. Just specialised and vulnerable to fighters - just like pretty much every bomber out there.

Tactically speak8ng, close air support are useful for harassment and slowing down or pinning enemy forces. If I'm not mistaken a large part of why German armor took so long to arrive in force in Normandy can be attributed to allied interdiction and cas

Don’t think it was really answered was it? Stuka was very good at what it did, and the technique is still very effective even today, but it was slow and and not very manoeuvrable so pretty quickly was easy pickings for allied fighters.

Well i think that at the early stages of the war the stuka was in fact a good dive bomber plane of its time. So i think stuka was not overrated.

The Stuka was just too niche to last

Well, the French high command also had zero trust in their intelligence, leading to many more blunders. Their fricking scout planes would report large concentrations of troops ahead of time, but their findings would be dismissed.

Probably never uttered by a soldier on the receiving end of a Stuka attack: “Don’t worry, the Stuka’s aren’t that accurate!”

The Stuka was akin to the later B52 and A10 Warthog. Great in theory but would be annihilated by any modern air defence system it might come up against without its own fighter protection.
