Could you give an example of messy first notes then? I struggle making notes because I think I could be better by thinking about it for "ten more seconds" and then repeating.

it is better than no notes.
But, you touch on the key aspect. "Pretty notes should never be the first notes."
Pretty notes are a 2nd or 3rd pass as you rebuild your understanding and linking new ideas into existing contexts.
Then there are the people for whom "pretty notes" are the doodle equivalent of a fidgetspinner.
If it's fun, then it is a way of increasing engagement. It "wastes" time but if you wouldn't otherwise take or review notes, then it is beneficial.

I actually take longer and put more thought into the material in order to make sure that my notes are organized and nice looking the first time. Add the pretty highlighters, washi tape, and stickers after each section for a 60 second brain break. "Aesthetic" can be efficient if you're not messy or careless. Some people can mind material AND presentation.

I REMB SONGS AND VIDEOS ON STUFF I VE SEEN ON INTERNET WITHOUT THE NEED OF ACTIVELY CONCENTRATING ON IT. EVEN ACTIVE RECALL WASN'T NEEDED. PASSIVE LISTENING WAS ENOUGH.
