I completely agree with you, Richard. It makes sense to decide on the spot what to take, which also depends where you go and the current weather situation. Further I prefer to charge the batteries fully before I need them, even it's probably not important anymore when using LiFePO4. It makes sense to develop a consistent plan how to pack, so the chances are small that something is missing. But each to his own.

I follow several radio amateurs across the pond on YouTube and there are also groups on social media about go-bags/boxes/kits, some of which fall in to the "two man lift" category. I guess the idea of thinking about what you take with you and why has merit so I do get something out of the videos but I agree that some of it does seem a bit alien to someone living in the UK!
