YouTube is a wonderful place to learn guitar. That’s how I’ve learned and it’s been awesome getting so many insights from so many different people.

I don’t like how well he captured the emotions felt in this situation.

I fucking hate guitar terminology so much I've been playing for 10 years and I can't communicate easily with any of my friends that don't know music theory

This is why teachers charge a lot haha 😄 but in all seriousness self motivation will allow you to make you're own journe

This is so true! when learning music always go by sound, not direction. took me a while to get used to

As someone who started with piano, then played violin, trombone and bass (guitar), this has never been a problem for me; there is no "up" on a piano, besides in pitch. I do dislike the guitar's irregular tuning though.

This is me teaching too…..I hate how hard it is to relay what I’m thinking and trying to express to my student

I feel like just knowing which notes the strings correspond to and knowing your fret position is the most simple road map to the layman guitarist

As a new person I kind of feel like everything is flipped from what it should be called

One of the great challenges of teaching a instrument is that there’s many seemingly odd/unintuitive things that make perfect sense once you understand the theory behind it. However, the theory behind it is a 2 hour lecture on history, physics, and music theory.

I teach guitar and this is exactly what it’s like.

Man, is that what my guitar teacher has to deal with? Like damn. I'm gonna go learn what every note is on the fretboard, he doesn't deserve this tourture!

Yup. And the worse part is, neither one is wrong. Hardest part of teaching a beginner is the difference in perspective. That's why i give a run-through to teach the parts of the guitar first and spend a lil extra time when i describe how the fretboard works. It doesn't help, but it makes me feel better later when i explain this again and they still get it wrong. Or right...idk. This whole video makes my eye twitch.

This brings back so many memories of teaching guitar students. Funny how after you've learned, you take those terms for granted and they make no sense to students.

Everyone talking about confusing terminology but no one seems to have a problem with C fn Flat! This is going to Be a Major problem for me.

Its simple, what you point with your index finger is the chord. The other 3 is the later ones. So remember your whole guitar fretboard notes 🤣

What I do when I teach is I define the terms before using them. “When I say up a fret, move towards the sound hole”
