I am a recent fan, so I am still working through your videos. I am here for your insighful, thoughtful, charming, and earnest reviews.
Your response to this invasive question is wonderful. Pointing out how loaded it can be, that the intent of the asker matters more than the answer insofar as this circumstance is concerned, and pointedly addressing the ridiculous and hateful "fear" of those who cannot accept an aspect of diversity that has existed since humanity began.
Your personal business is just that, personal. Whatever you choose to share and however you choose to present, I doubt it will change how I perceive you: lovely and intelligent.

Hopefully it doesn't come off as offensive, but I don't really care? I like your videos, from what I've seen I like you. Your opinions are interesting and well thought out and your content is entertaining, relevant, and thought provoking. I'd hangout with you over a drink. Gender, orientation, clothing, hairstyle, etc. doesn't really matter as long as you're comfortable and happy with it.

I laughed out loud at "It doesn't look promising because you haven't used any punctuation." In retrospect, all of the trans people I know understand that commas aren't pauses but an important piece of grammar for facilitating better communication. Perhaps you're onto something there.
I've followed you for about a year and hadn't thought about your sexual orientation or gender expression. I know you use the term partner, but I have straight, cis friends who use the word because they aren't married but feel the word boyfriend/girlfriend doesn't represent the commitment in their relationship. I follow you because you provide a well-structured and intelligent take on literature, but then again, I'm not on the side of politics where folks want to regulate what is in a person's pants. The only bathroom bill I would support would be one that required people wash their hands after using the restroom.
I hope the person who messaged you was just young, questioning their own gender expression, and looking for a supportive, adult role model. Given that the subject matter of your videos attracts people who voluntarily read more than a menu, I'd say it's even likely. Fingers crossed.

I’m a trans guy, and it might seem irrelevant to write this here, now, but for quite a while I’ve wanted to thank you for introducing me to Olga Tokarczuk. No matter what you’re reading and reviewing right now, you’ll always be the woman whose review of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead jerked me from the passive complacency I felt toward reading. And learning. And reviewing, and criticism…research, too. I was allowing ignorance & cynicism to creep in with age (51). Something felt wrong, but that’s been set right.
I studied Gertrude Stein amd her retinue, and then Blake & I randomly crossed paths 20 years ago. The essay I wrote about To Tirzah was the last academic thing I did. But now? Okay, now along comes Tokarczuk and her weird little (surface-membrane) murder mystery. The way her writing engages me just feels like coming home…home to welcoming hugs from that beautiful bunch of freaks I call my very own chosen family. 💜It’s been too long!
I’m excited again to resist that myopic ignorance and the way that shrinks a life. I honestly can’t quite thank you enough for sharing your thoughts on Tokarczuk’s writing! (Oops this got long… that’s awkward, but…thanks for reading!
