Seems easy to answer on the surface if you consider yourself a decent person . But “would you rather” makes me think I have to choose one. So if you change the wording a little bit to make it more like a trolley problem, it feels more difficult to answer. Like what is the real difference between making the conscious decision to murder with a knife or gun in order to preserve my own life vs. making the conscious decision to divert the trolley away from myself and ultimately ensure the death of another person?

It really depends on if you can pick who you steal from and who you murder. I wouldn't beat someone up for no reason tho.
