We have flexible plastic 10mm to the radiator from the center in the wall behind. So we rope our radiators to a small double step ladder to angle it away from the wall gives just enough room to add the colour with a small brush.

I just use a paint pad to paint behind the radiator, no need to risk any leaks or damaging anything.

Do you know what, this may be useful in some cases where it won’t damage anything. I’ll support the base of the radiator though as someone is bound to stand on the thing by accident for the short time it’s like that. Good stuff 👍

Szymon, an adjustable wrench should be used to work on radiator valves.

I can imagine trying this and then causing a leak I can’t control 😂

Won't work when the TRV is connected the top, which is typically what I come across.

Silly idea for a good experienced engineer

This is not the way to do it, defiantly will cause leaks

I cannot agree on thos one... Risky... Stressing pipework and the valve/pipe compression joints. Decorator putting weight on raditaor ? Far better off removing and capping the open ended valves.

Dont try that in the United States. Just breathing on a 120 year old cast iron radiator can cause cracks and leaks. Our steam systems ran on only a few pounds of pressure and everything was threaded. If you must mess with a radiator know where the feeder is and make sure the shut off to it works. Crack a bleeder then shut the feeder off an make sure the water stops flowing out of the bleeder. I've seen radiators on systems with auto feeders be a few thousandths of an inch thick because the feeder keeps adding fresh oxygenated water to what is supposed to be a closed system. Dont flood your house to paint behind a radiator.

Ok in theory but im not trying that any time soon

HaHa 😂 ... now try that with a real sized radiator, something like the average size 5 or 6ft double convector ones. They would do you back in trying that trick. 😉
