The biggest difference between lead generation and ABM is quite simple. On lead generation you drive leads. You don't know who the audience is, you know what audience you like, demography and attributes, so you cast a wide net. Everybody who comes to you you give a score and that's how you generate leads.

With ABM you know who the accounts are will also reveal who are the key accounts, the decision makers, the influencers you should target. With a good ABM campaign you map them out too. Why do you need to generate a lead if you already know who they are? The trick to ABM is reaching these people, engaging them and getting them interested in your product.
