The pope says that because for them it's about communion and the priest's words/sermon aren't that important. Btw, I'm not Catholic by any stretch. I want a sermon to be whatever MY pastor deems is appropriate/neccesary for the text. Thanks brother.

The pope has a good point. Ask 95% of your congregation what they remember from your expositional sermon last Sunday. They'll have remembered the joke you told.

Two fundamentally different approaches to worship. Liturgically centered sacrificial offering vs. Scripture centered revelation of the word. Not saying either is good or bad but apples & oranges.

Interesting point about the Catholic Mass.
The Homily is optional.
Eucharist is not.
Mass is our highest for of worship and prayer. It isn’t about the preacher lest any man can boast.

When Catholics pay attention to the 3-4 readings @ mass, there's not as much need to have a "preachuh" pontificate about a couple of proof texts.

Pastor centered churches rely on the personality and humor of the speaker - rather than the equal centrality of the Lords supper = creates the entertainment aspect of a Sunday worship service that makes it seem more like a worldly get together . This is evidenced by the multitude of pastors who rarely share their pulpit with the elders of their church thinking they are to important to spread that responsibility to others that are capable and turns the Lords table into a side show or secondary event ..:

You're speaking as if Catholic sermons aren't typically expositional. They are, it's just they are also brief.
I think 8 minutes are a bit short as well; but nevertheless this dialogue between expositional preachers, not expositional to non-expositional.

Sadly there are pastors that cant get a message out without shouting, running on stage, and having musical entertainment. Preach the WORD and start from Genesis thru Revelation and you will be Blessed
