No words can describe the tragedy and the loss and the grief of losing a child, a brother, a sister, a father, a mother, a neighbor โค๐Ÿ˜ขโค๐Ÿ˜ข

My chest literally physically aches for those adults and children lost, for their families, their friends, the communities, the search and rescue workers, and even the people who have to bring us these stories and information. So many tears and so much agony.

Please, everyone in this area don't forget about your mental health. I live in Erwin, TN. What would become the hardest hit town from Helene in the state. I was one of the people who dived in head first to help. We lived in FL for 36 years and left after Ian. So I'm no stranger to hurricanes or helping after. I was not prepared for the things I saw. I still can't talk about some of it and I've been in therapy twice a week since about a month after.

Please Texas put in place counselling for all the first responders and those who survived. Make several sessions of counselling free for these people! They need to make sense of what's just happened in your state. They won't be fit for duties if you don't give them this hand to process their emotions.

We give free counselling to our first responders in Australia because we know it's these same people who will be out in the next disaster.

And NYT, please give this reporter free counselling too. He sounds really shattered.

In 1993 my whole town flooded. It was a wet year the ground was heavily saturated. A big storm rolled through in the middle of the night dumping over 8 inches of rain in a matter of hours. Everyone woke up to the town flooded. No warning. It happened fast. Nobody's fault. Same thing in Texas. The national weather service issued a flash flood warning the day prior, clearly not their fault. The ground was heavily saturated. Nobody expected a tropical storm to stall and dump three inches of rain an hour in the same spot. It's hard to predict that and it's even harder to warn everyone in the middle of the night. Maybe don't take your kids camping in a flood zone when a flash flood warning had been issued? Common sense? ๐Ÿ˜ข

As all these other comments say, I am praying for these families ๐Ÿ™ That being said, where is the accountability for this? That area is called "Flash Flood Alley" for a reason. A similar event also happened in the same area in 1987. But this current event was much worse. Why has the state not funded existing programs re: infrastructure to help protect this area from future flooding

This is a horrific tragedy. When a event as horrible as this happens isn't it customary for the president to get down there asap?!? I heard the president said he might come on Friday. I know our president lacks compassion but shouldn't he at least act like he cares about Americans. He did say it was terrible but he didn't say much else. He is more concerned with talking about his "tremendous tariffs". He looked bored or annoyed (not sure which) when listening to details about the flood.

This is horrible! My heart goes out to these families! The hardest part of this is that the loss of lives could have been less had the notifications been available but because of this administration the people who could have helped were not there. This administration is responsible.
