People really love the carbonation in a Coke. Coke is carbonated when water is infused with carbon dioxide gas under pressure. The carbon dioxide is slowly released once the bottle is opened. But, have you ever seen a bottle of coke being opened underwater? By doing this, you can see the effect of the carbon dioxide escaping, a lot better than when you open it in the air. You can even see how CO2 acidifies the water around it by adding an acid-base indicator that turns red in acid. But I was wondering what would happen if we add a Mentos to the Coke underwater. Since Mentos acts to break up the bonds between carbon dioxide and water, it should allow the carbon dioxide bubbles to escape even quicker.
