If you see the tears of your child as a way of them to communicate something to you, then, there is no such thing as “fake tears”
Sometimes we just ignore those tears because we think they are just over-reacting… but often times, those tears are trying to tell us that our children need more connection.
Just the other day I was working on my computer and out of nowhere Abby started crying.
I could tell her “stop crying, there is nothing wrong”
The problem was, it’s not that something happened, is that she was feeling alone, she just wanted mommy to pay attention to her and play with her.
So I just say “I’ll play with you as soon as I send this email”
Problem solved!
I am not saying, give them everything they want even if it seems that they are crying for no reason. Absolutely not.
But, here are two thing I invite you to do when you see “fake tears”:
1. Reflect in that situation, is there anything that your child needs from you?
2. Validate their feelings, it’s ok to say No, but we need to let our children know that their feelings matter and that they can be themselves in front of us.
Remember: you are your child’s safe place!
Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend! ❤️
