To everyone saying that this isn’t impressive, let me tell you how hard it is to play any instrument in general. As a pianist, I can tell you how much I struggled throughout my journey just to be able to play really intense Chopin pieces or long Beethoven sonatas. It is not easy and the same goes for the violin. I can easily tell anyone that violin is one of the hardest if not the hardest instrument. It is definitely one of the hardest instruments to be able to produce a good enough sound (get rid of the scratchy sound basically) and on average it takes about at least 2-3 years or more to be able to produce a good enough sound depending on the person and their desire to continue on. Also about the people talking about how this isn’t impressive because of prodigies (ex. Chloe Chua, Sohyun Ko), or because of immense wealth, I guarantee you take the reason they are so amazing at their craft and have mastered the violin so well is because of the amount of practice and dedication they have. It takes hours upon hours of practice to be able to play a piece well (and I mean virtuosically or expressing a colorful scenery with the music as well as playing the notes clearly so you can hear each note cleanly). People can be prodigies without needing a lot of money or being super wealthy (to everyone saying all prodigies are wealthy from birth). Chloe Chua can play the arguably hardest cadenza in violin repertoire (Sauret, Paganini Concerto No. 1) because she took so much time to practice until she fully mastered it to perfection. You can spend hours practicing two bars of a piece to perfect it because each bar is carefully written by each composer as each bar has a slightly different expression than the next. For the girl to play this piece with a slightly scratchy sound but very clear is a pretty big feat not just for her age but the girl herself. So don’t judge someone because of something they do so harshly because there are people out in the world who are much “better” and deserve more respect.
