I want to clarify that there is a difference between being creative and being imaginative. I've known people who can come up with imaginative ideas all day, yet they never act on seeing these ideas come to fruition. Creativity is the process of taking the idea from the imagination and bringing it to fruition. Being imaginative means nothing if you cannot summon the willpower or courage to create with that initial spark. You must act on it, you cannot pride yourself on a "good idea", because anyone can do that.

When I'm being productive or working is when I get more creative in my own work⌠when I was working in an office, I was always thinking and taking notes. I finish my 2 features screenplays at work xD (nobody knows, of course)

I believe that you take advantage of the quiet moments where you donât have any obligations other than be in your own space and just relax and be free. Too many times because of social media there is this pull to do go something and get out of the house, but you need the stillness of being âbored and unproductiveâ to actually listen to what is in your heart and draw out that creativity.

I tend toward Lucille Ball's tmphilosophy: "If you want something done, ask a busy person to do it." Reverse engineered, that translates to "Get off your duff so you're ready to add what comes your way to your juggling act."

I wish this was true for me. Being bored doesn't help me get creative works done. In the midst of a writer's block right now and bored out of my mind. I think I'm reverse, I usually work base with fire under the feet. Regardless this is great advice.

Counterpoint: being unproductive literally means your work is not being done. Your creative impulses come to nothing if not put down on paper.
If youâre going to be âunproductiveâ do it by going somewhere you wouldnât normally go. Let a partner, parent, or, if youâre that old, child take you if they have a place. Talk to others there. Listen to the conversations. Thatâs where your inspiration comes from.
Learn to dream in the day and write down your dreams from the nighttime.
