Is China the new nuclear overlord of the world?

On September 3rd, 2025, during their massive victory day parade, China unveiled several new nuclear-capable missiles—the DF-61, JL-1, JL-3… but the one that stole the show? The Dongfeng-5C, their newest, most powerful ICBM.
According to Chinese claims, this system has an operational range of 20,000 km—which, if true, would make it the longest-range nuclear ICBM ever built, capable of hitting virtually any point on Earth.

For comparison:
The current confirmed longest-range ICMB is Russia’s RS-28 Sarmat. 18,000 km.
at second place, it’s North Korea’s Hwasong-17? 15,000 km.
at third place, it’s the American LGM-30 Minuteman III? Just 13,000 km.

The DF-5C dwarfs them all.
And here’s the scary part: it’s MIRV-capable. MIRV stands for Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicles. That means when it reenters the atmosphere, it splinters and releases multiple smaller warheads that hit different targets independently, basically a nuclear shotgun, making interception almost impossible.
