Iām actually more surprised that younger service members even care what I think than anything else. Iām often vilified for making simple corrections or doing unpopular, but correct things.
However, hearing that Iāve got retirement orders in hand seems to spark the question, āSo, was it worth it?ā
In short, yes, absolutely! But thereās a ton of nuance, regrets, and challenges that come along with that. Just read my articles on my blog and youāll find evidence of many of my mistakes and regrets.
However, Iāve seen the world on the Armyās dollar, met some truly amazing people, found purpose through service to others, and so much more! I really have started to like myself and who Iāve become.
All in all, I wouldnāt change a thing. For those about to serve, I salute you!
