I made an Oregon Ducks inspired Mando helmet!

This project started as a commission request that never followed through. Iā€™m not much of a sports guy, but I liked the team colors so much I decided to make it anyway! Full build video is up on my YouTube channel. šŸ¦†

I wanted to incorporate details from the team so I took to Google to do a bit of research. I was also encouraged by a friend to reference the color-way of the teamā€™s ā€œduckā€ uniforms from a couple years ago. The stark contrast of the uniformā€™s colors played a big role in setting the overall tone of my design, and in my humble opinion, I feel that what I ended up with perfectly balances the line between calling out a few team references while maintaining that ā€œStar Warsyā€ feel (which is critical).

I used an Aurebesh ā€œUā€ and ā€œOā€ on the ears as a call back to the Ducksā€™ previous branding (University of Oregon) and used another heavily stylized Aurebesh font for the ā€œOā€ on the front of the dome to reference their current branding. The two stripes over the eye mirror the sleeve stripes of their mascots uniform and the dots on the right side of the dome spell ā€œQUACKā€ in droid numerals.

To reference a standard jersey, thereā€™s also the number ā€œ24ā€ in the back. I couldnā€™t find any meaningful number to the team so I just went with the year the helmet was made. Likewise, I couldnā€™t think of any sort of reference to give the Mando ā€œkillstripesā€ so I transitioned them from yellow to orange as both a reference to ESB Boba and the teamā€™s previous ā€œduckā€ color-way.
