My dad grew up on a farm, and from the age of 12 until he joined the army at 18 he was the blacksmith on that farm, and made ox sboes and horse shoes for use on that farm amongst other items.
He said the biggest shoes he made were for shire horses, and that they were big b∆st∆rds, and he was glad that he only had to make them, and wasnt the one that had to fit them to the shire horses, because he had seen two people die on separate occasions from being kicked by one having it's shoes fitted.
I bet he was glad for national service by the time he got to 18.
