What is hilarious about it is that an all powerful all knowing god would know exactly what to do to convince me and all the people on the planet simultaneously leaving no confusion or contradiction as to its existence. However knowing something exists and being willing to worship such an evil creature with that representation is a whole different conversation entirely.

This is the difference between Christianity and Buddhism I was looking for. I’m a secular Buddhist and I recently read up on the misogyny and sexism that can be found in some spots in Buddhist texts. I was thinking, why am I okay with misogyny in this religion but not the other one? And I started looking for differences. This is the difference. Buddha said it was okay to disagree with some of what he said. I don’t have to believe 1000% of Buddhism. I live a Buddhist life but I don’t believe in the cultural gender roles or reincarnation. Buddha is not going to burn me forever because I didn’t believe about 45% of what he taught.

I just find this to be enormously more complex than we would like it to be. As an atheist myself I always thought how obvious it was and why theist are following a 'thug' or 'fragile ego being'. Then I tried to understand believing as action and not some statement you make, and concluded that if you don't trust (because you cannot fundamentally know) that the universe is fundamentally rigged in favor of honest and brave people then you don't become one, and in not becoming one therefore condemnt yourself to 'hell'. For the record, I don't think theist people really 'believe' and most of the time are like parrots, constanly 'stating' their belief and I think compensating for what they lack in everday actual action.
