Had it many times with KLM. Book a ticket economy and check the business class tickets a few days prior to departure. Have had several upgrades for just over €50 while the difference at booking time was about €200+.

It’s totally not worth it. Empty middle seat which you may already have had, and a $10 worth of cattle meal. No thanks.

Presumably you already have status and therefore get lounge access, priority boarding and a likely empty middle seat when capacity allows, so this definitely does not feel like a worthwhile upgrade on such a short flight.
