It makes some sense to an extent. Goku had a power level of 416 against Raditz (think it went up to 900 with the kamehameha) and after just a year of being dead, he resurrects with a maximum power level of 32,000, which is around 72 times what his power level was when he fought Raditz. If Goku grew at that rate over another year, his power level would be 2,304,000. And if he kept growing like that he'd have been monstrous. Maybe it made sense to go over kill with the power levels. Just to be safe.

Does kinda raise the question of how Frieza (and his ancestors) went uncontested so long when people can just build robots magnitudes more powerful than them. Could assume Gero is just a prodigy, but we seem much more powerful robots and androids later on (tho many from different universes)

It’s highly plausible that Dr. Gero reinforced his lab doors with Katchin—the hardest metal in the Dragon Ball universe—or a similar ultra-durable alloy, since we know such materials exist in the series.
